Now More Than Ever, We Must Be Green

Think gently of us tomorrow at my school. I just got a call today that one of our kids was killed last night in a car accident. There's an early faculty meeting and we'll have extra counselors.

The boy hasn't been in my class but I know this loss will make big ripples. It hits me hard for the obvious reasons but then also for the vital role a caring person can play.

Time to pass the gift...

Thanks to you both (and the rest of you who just thought of us today). Our Principal handled the situation with grace. This week's homecoming is postponed along with some other activites and we had extra counselors on hand.

The brunt of this tragedy didn't really hit my classroom. None of my kids knew this student well. I just gave all of them a chance to talk if they wanted.

What they wanted to discuss is how tragic it is that they could go to school with a kid for four years and not know him. We talked about how short and yet how long life could be and you know what? I feel warm and honest and relaxed at the end of this day, not wrung out like I thought I would.
